6.27.10

Church: there are just those days that you remember that you really are supposed to be there and that good things come from being obedient.

Home teachers: I really like our home teachers right now. I hope they aren't changed any time soon. I love the feeling they bring into our home.

Sourdoughs: we had our family sourdough pancake night. I love it when my dad starts teaching. He is such a good dad... and has so much knowledge. His wisdom is appreciated as I'm starting my little family and want to raise good, healthy kids.
6.26.10

Icelandic Days: we went down to Spanish Fork today for Icelandic Days. My husband's family has Icelandic heritage and it is a great tradition to go down and be a part of. We missed the morning shift, but we were able to go down and be there with his family for a bit. I'm grateful to know my kids will grow up with an appreciation for where they come from.

Memorials: we also went by my husband's grandparent's graves. We got some flowers and spent a little time walking through the cemetery. (Morbid note... I love cemeteries! I could wander around them for hours!) There is such a beautiful peace you can feel when you are there. I know there is heartache to some who visit, but on a whole I feel that those who are resting there have found peace in the afterlife and as Brigham Young said, Our ancestors are more interested in our lives than we are (paraphrased). Whenever I go and visit I'm reminded of that phrase and I'm comforted to know that there are many on the other side who love me and who are rooting for me. It also reminds me that I'm not alone.

Heart to hearts: tonight I had a great talk with my main man. Sometimes it's nice to be able to sit and get on the same page again.
6.25.10

Lunches: I went out to lunch with a friend from the good ol' working days today. It's always fun to get caught up on the latest news of people that I enjoyed working with. I'm amazed that it's been over a year since I stopped working full time. It was worth it, but at times I miss the creativity I had. I guess I should be channeling all that inner design into my house... anyone have any extra cash they want to throw my way?!? :)

Boo: So my kid has started saying BOO! I guess it was only a matter of time. It has been his favorite game for a long time... and I shortened the peek-a-boo to just BOO! So he decided to come around the couch today to where I was sitting and say BOO! Then he walked around the couch and did it again. Seriously cute... and he is now saying it all the time!

The Compound: has it really been 4 years that we've been hanging out with our friends on a regular basis? Wow! I'm so grateful for these amazing people in my life. I love them so much. I learn about myself and who I want to be when I'm around them. I hope someday they don't figure out that I'm just a big goof! (Maybe they know and just look the other way.) :)

6.24.10

Splatter stuff: I honestly don't know what it's really called. I guess I could get off my lazy behind and go see... but it's in the kitchen and I don't want to. :) Today I found out that there are spray bottles that if you have a textured wall will mimic your walls... so if you have dings in your wall or had to fix some holes then you can re-texture the spot and whala--you're good as new. I don't know why this excites me so much, but it does.

New haircuts: the last time I had a haircut it was September of 2009. Yes friends, it's been a while. So today I was able to cut the ragamuffin head and start with a fresh new doo! Now I just have to dye my gray and we'll be all good.

Fun news: I found out last night that a dear friend is expecting her first baby. I love hearing fun news like that. It makes me happy for her. I also found out that my best friend is putting an offer in on a house. Good news all the way around because the house she is offering on is 5 minutes from mine. How is this a bad plan?
6.23.10

Laps: today when I had Little E and Bug, Little E was having a hard moment. So in order to comfort her he decided to sit on her lap. (This is what he does to us when he wants to give loves.) It was hilarious! I saved her just in the nick of time! Considering how much bigger my kid is than Little E, it could have turned out very badly!

Pull ups: Little E on the other hand is learning how to pull herself up by grabbing things... Bug got grabbed and they both went tumbling down... also a hilarious moment!

Laying down: I had a moment this afternoon that reminded me of the grim days after I got home from my mission. I was light headed and blacked out. How grateful I am for a husband who lets me lay down and takes over when I don't feel well. After a few minutes I felt better and was back at the races. Thanks babe for being my white knight!
6.22.10

Shelves: I've got a "fix it" dad. He really is the man of all trades. He can turn a wooden bowl, garden like a pro, be a photographer, break a horse, ski like a professional... you name it, my dad has probably done it and if he hasn't done it, he'll try it and then be good at it. So... when I have something that needs to be done I normally call my dad if my husband can't do it. This morning he came over to fix a shelf that fell down. Good man...

Shopping: I was able to take the afternoon to go shopping with my mom and sister. We got the cutest shirt for Bug. I'm hoping that I can get some family pictures taken soon... so he's going to be a little stud-muffin!

Ties: I got my man some new ties. I bought 2 that I know he'll like, and 2 that he's just going to have to suck it up and wear because I like them. :)

6.23.2010

6.21.10

Ferris Bueller's Day Off: every time my husband has a day off from work I think of it as a sluff day. Even though it's legal, he takes the time off, etc... I still in my mind think that someone is going to turn him in. Today he took the day off to be with me and it was a wonderful day! Thanks for sluffing with me babe!

Going to be with Grandparents: we were able to spend some time today with my husband's parents. It was really nice to go down there and play with them. On a funny note, they have a stereo system in their living room and the kid had played with the volume. When grandpa turned it on it was so loud that Bug almost jumped out of his skin. SO FUNNY!

Costco: we went to the bigger costco down south today and it was fun to see the things they have at that store that we don't have at ours.
6.20.10

Father's Day: it is wonderful to have a day dedicated to dads! I love my dad. He is in my opinion one of the best fathers of all time. I'm also lucky to have a great husband who loves our kid with his whole heart and is an amazing father. I have a great father-in-law, amazing friends who are great dads, and brothers that love their kids and make our family a wonderful thing to be a part of. Most of all I know I have a Father in Heaven who made all this possible. How truly blessed I am to know of His love for all of His children.

Good food: as with all celebrations, I think it is a great excuse to eat a lot of calories!

Cuddle time: I've been getting caught up on my sleep, (thanks to my husband for that) and my favorite part of the day is being able to snuggle up to a good man. I love you babe!
6.19.10

Sleep: after a week of little to no sleep, my husband let me sleep in this morning. I'm happy to say I was able to get 14 hours of uninterrupted sleep! Yay!

Shopping: we went out as a family today and got some Father's Day shopping done. I love buying ties! I know it's a little redundant to give ties... but you've never seen the kind of ties I give!

Date night: my sister and brother-in-law came over tonight so that my husband and I could go out on a date. It was so nice to go and just be with him! Good food, brainless movie, and grocery shopping... It was a great date! (even with the grocery shopping!)
6.18.10

Breaking camp: it was amazing to me how fast people wanted to go home... it's as if they missed their showers or something!

Showers: there is nothing quite like the feel of standing under hot water after a week of camping.

Family: it was so good to see my husband and son. I love my little family and feel so blessed that they missed me as much as I missed them. Bug was so happy to see me! He would come and pat me, sit on my lap, give hugs, then get up and do a little dance just to pat me again, sit on my lap again and give me more hugs. I love being a mom!
6.17.10

Skits: after the wind yesterday we canceled skit night and instead had it this morning. It was so much fun to see the different wards and what they came up with for skit night. As the stake we had a dance off... ya gotta love the priesthood that can let loose and make the girls laugh that hard!

Cardboard: who know 100 boxes and copious rolls of duct tape could produce so much fun! The wards made forts and we were able to go around afterward and see the themes they came up with. It was very fun to watch. We even came up with the "Pearl Awards" for them... Hilarious!

Devotionals: We had a young man come up tonight to give a devotional to the girls on their last night at camp. His name is Lance and I have to say that after much prayer and fasting on most of the leaders parts, he gave the devotional to dream of. He was able to get to a personal level with the girls and to motivate to do good. I was truly impressed with this young man and I hope my son turns out to be as amazing as this kid is! After the devotional the wards went back to have testimony meeting together. It was a great night!
6.16.10

The groove: I feel like today I've hit my groove when it comes to camp. I've been having fun, but today I felt like I have actually been able to contribute!

Typhoons! Okay so it wasn't a real typhoon, but it sure felt like one. We've had several camps have some severe destruction going on! Tents going down, canapes flying, rain everywhere! It's so cold I think some girls might turn into Popsicles! Oh the joys of camping!

Mau: after the destruction dissapated a little the leaders settled down for a nice, friendly game of mau. Seriously... I never knew it was so hard to laugh with your mouth shut! So fun!
6.15.10

Feeling lost: I'm horrible at names, horrible with remembering things unless they are written down, and now I'm one of the people in charge?!? It's a dirty little trick! But I'm having so much fun at camp I don't really care!

Breakfast: we made breakfast for everyone as the wards came into camp. It was fun to see people and to be able to welcome them into camp. It also tasted very good... We've got some great men at camp who really know how to cook!

Faith hikes: although each ward was able to put into the hikes what they wanted them to be for their girls, it was awesome to watch it in the works. My own ward had a cool experience where their YW President wanted to take a girl off the path and let her go to the tree of life without staying on the path, the girl wanted to continue the journey and one of the girls behind her (who didn't know the girl at all) started to help her stay on the path and tried to tell Julie to leave her alone. How often in our lives are we helped by a total stranger? I know that people try to help me all the time, and I'm so grateful for them.
6.14.10

Last minute: I had to run around today to get last minute details done for camp before leaving... whew!

Putting up a tent: who knew it could be such a hilarious experience! As we set up camp with the help of our YCL's I couldn't help but giggle when they asked me how to do something. It was the blind leading the blind! Good thing other people were around who knew what they were doing!

Firesides: I was able to talk tonight with the YCL's and have a quick devotional. I've been preparing for this for months. I always know that I'm allowing the spirit to touch my heart when afterward I don't remember what I said... so I must have been really feeling the spirit since I don't remember a word!

6.13.2010

6.13.10

Toilet paper: you don't realize how much you love having it until you run out.

Listening to the jabber: I love listening to my kid as he talks to himself. He is so like me in the way that he likes to talk even if it is only to himself.

Necklaces: I was able to finish up 9 hand made necklaces today for my YCL's. I'm very happy they turned out so cute!
6.12.10

Countdowns: as camp gets closer and closer I get a little bit more excited and scared at the same time. Does that make any sense at all?

Netflix: I'm in love with the xbox feature. I've now had on movies and TV shows in the background as I pack and get things ready for camp.

Mail: my stamp set came today in the mail! Whoo-hoo!!! Yes I'm really that weird! (But I can make my own personalized jewelry now!)
6.11.10

Birthday boy: our little man turned 1 today. SO FUN! I can't believe that the time has gone by so fast but I'm so thankful for this little dude in my life. He's amazing to me!

Chocolate cake: Oh my heck it was good!

Presents: the kid totally scored!
6.10.10

Panic: I think that sometimes panic is the best motivator on earth!

Tylonol Cold: quite possibly the best drug on earth. Maybe not, but I'm just saying...

Pretzels: I sure do love them!

6.10.2010

6.9.10

Huge smiles: little E has this smile that is seriously half her face. With the two little teeth that have popped out on the bottom, when she smiles it's like a ray of sunshine!

Having the man around: my husband worked from home today and it was VERY nice. We even did an early dinner and took the kid to have some noodles. The little man also got a very cute haircut for his first birthday!

Skits: we got together tonight to work on the stake skit for girls camp. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Our priesthood leaders aren't afraid to do anything kooky... it's great!

6.08.2010

6.8.10

Sleep: last night I totally caved and took copious amounts of "aid" so that I could sleep. It was wonderful! I woke up before the alarm went off and felt rested and relaxed. I love that feeling!

Shopping: I was able to go out today (without the kid!) and get some shopping done for the upcoming events of life (1st birthday and camp). I'm so grateful for a sister who loves my kid as much as he loves her! Seriously, when she's around I'm totally chopped liver. YAY! At least there is one person I can pawn him off on!!!

Taco eating contest: my husband's work had a taco eating contest today. One of his friends on his team ate 24 tacos! Talk about indigestion! Ger only managed 5, but he's still talking about how much it hurts. Kinda funny if you ask me!
6.7.10

Laying in the grass: it was such a nice day today that Bug and I went out and laid in the grass together for a few minutes. He got up faster than I did and wandered around the back yard pointing at things and grunting for my approval. It was sure cute.

Mama: Bug has been saying mama for a long time now, but it has been in that kid way where you know he is applying it to the women of the world and not just me. We've been working on that by me patting him and saying his name, then patting my husband and saying Dada, and then patting me and saying Mama. He mimics us when we do this and he still cries my name when he's sad or hurt, but today... oh today! He came up to me out of the blue without me coaxing him, patted my arm and said Mama. Totally melted my heart.

Appreciating what you have: I've been trying to focus on the good and not on the stress. With camp less than a week away and my lists getting longer and longer... It's not as easy as it seems. :) Tonight as I sit on the couch after throwing out my back, I am forced to try and relax and focus on the good. I really am blessed with such a great family and friend network. I hope you know how grateful I am for all of you!
6.6.10

Teaching: I co-teach the 10 year old primary class in our ward. Today we talked about the ten commandments. I've read and heard the story hundreds of times over my life and I still taught it wrong! I swear... I'm going to get fired! However, I think the kids all enjoyed teasing me. :)

Long naps: the kid took a 3.5 hour nap this afternoon! Seriously!!! It was so nice to have the down time to sit and appreciate the quiet. I don't get much of that so I love it when it happens!

Chilling with the family: we went down to see my in-laws after the kid woke up and it was good to see them. Bug fell in love with the balloons they had from their homecoming, and grandma and grandpa gave him one to take home with him. It is his new favorite thing.

6.07.2010

6.5.10

Elbow grease: I scrubbed my kitchen floor today... my house now smells like Mr. Clean. It's a great smell!

Blue skies: I love going outside on such a beautiful day!

Movie night: We went out with my sister and her husband to see Prince of Persia. I'd heard bad things about it, and so I went in with low expectations. I love it when that happens because I was able to enjoy the movie for what it was. Entertainment!
6.4.10

Dancing queen: sometimes blasting ABBA as loud as you can makes for a very happy dance marathon.

Little plants: I love going out to the garden and watching the little plants grow. We have our first buds that are going to make little peppers. I'm so excited!

Old books: I'm one of those people who can read a book over and over again. I think I've read Pride & Prejudice every year of my life since I was 12. So, I'm a book hoarder. When I have the urge I go into my office, pick a book and read away... even if it is for the 21st time.
6.3.10

1100 Jewels: there's nothing quite like putting 1100 jewels on wooden tokens.

Pulled pork: I've been smelling it all day and I'm very glad I got to eat it tonight.

Parents: we saw my in-laws tonight for the first time since they came home. It was really good to see them!

6.03.2010

6.2.10

Red Mango: I love their yogurt. One of my besties took me there months ago and I was hooked! I'm a particular fan of their original flavor with some strawberries on it. YUMM!

Get'ur'done! every time I hear that expression I hear a lovable redneck saying it (in my head). It's been my mantra as of late. As I desperately try to get all the ducks lined up for all the things going on in my life I hear my studly redneck cheering me on!

Dish washer: my husband asked what he could do for me tonight (stress levels are high) and so my amazingly awesome husband did the dishes. He also rubbed my shoulders and made me laugh. How lucky am I to have such a great man in my life?

6.02.2010

6.1.10

Painting: I was able to paint 1100 little wooden disks today. I know... I rock! (They are for girls camp.)

Blankets: I also got one of the blankets I've been meaning to sew done today. I seem to be on fire! It's really cute with monkeys on it.

Craft stores: they have so many cute and fun things in them. I wish I were rich and could buy anything I want. :)
5.31.10

Memorial Day: I'm so grateful for the men and women who serve and protect our country. I am very blessed to be in a country with the freedoms and liberties I have.

Kick ball: it was fun to watch my family go out and play with the kids. We played kick ball and I sat on the sidelines and cheered with Little D.

Food: I love the comfort of summertime BBQ food. I could eat all day!
5.30.10

Being released: I'm now down to 2 callings! I'm grateful for a little less stress!

Mommy time: there are times when it is hard to be the one the kid wants all the time, but there are other times that I'm grateful he knows that I love him and will protect him and take care of him. He had another rough day.

Sitting in the sun: I went into our back yard today and sat and enjoyed the breeze. It was very nice.
5.29.10

Coming home: my sweet in-laws are coming home from their mission next week. It's a little early, but for medical reasons they will be home. I'm so excited to see them and I am excited to have them be a part of our lives on a regular basis again.

Date night: even though the kid isn't quite back to normal yet my husband and I went and saw Robin Hood tonight. It was a great movie and I'm thankful for family that takes care of crying boys!
"Don't worry and enjoy yourself" I really do have great sisters!

Tillers: We bought a low grade tiller for our back hill, aka the jungle. best. buy. ever!
5.28.10

Migraine: I know it's not something normal people are thankful for, however, when you have one and your husband decides to stay home from work to help take care of you and the kid... that makes for a much better day!

Holding a little boy: he's getting his top teeth in and seriously wants to be held all. the. time! So instead of being annoyed by not having hands I'm looking at it as a gift. Someday he won't want to be held and loved. Someday he'll want to be held and loved by a different girl. So today I will hold and love my little man, storing up the sweet snuggles in my memory bank.

Touching my toes: every once in a while I try to touch my toes to make sure I can still do it. Guess what! I can!
5.27.10

Camp songs: I've been researching camp songs. Mainly because I want to get in the mood for camp. I'm hoping that going around singing all these songs will make me the cool goof-ball and not the crazy lady all the girls run from.

Green grass: the year I had cancer, we kinda let our yard go to pot. Seriously. It became our jungle. In the following years we've attempted halfheartedly to get the yard in order. One year we burned the grass and had cow spots... no joke... However this year we actually have a pretty yard! The grass is green, the weeds are pulled (front yard only, but at least it's a start), and we actually have a little garden! I know! It's shocking!

Goggy gog: it's how the kid is saying doggy dog.
5.26.10

Little E: after a drought of not having Little E around we were able to play with her today. It was so much fun! She is sitting up on her own and it makes for a lot more interaction between the two cousins. Of course they are both at that "I want that toy so I will take it away from you" phase... but still... it's cute!

Toes: I didn't mention this the day it happened, but I remembered it today and it made me laugh all over again. The other day out of the blue our little man went up and bit his dad's big toe. It was hilarious. I've never heard my husband squeal that way before. I guess Little D's teeth are sharp!

Noses: Little D is learning to honk noses. It's funny because he doesn't quite get that he can stop squeezing.
