3.29.10

Getting rid of things: I went through my closet today. Scary. But it was nice to get rid of things that I don't use anymore and know that they will be going to people who need them more than I do.

Yard Work: I thought about doing some today. :) Maybe tomorrow.

Exhaustion: I'm so looking forward to my bed. I'm so grateful I have one...
3.28.10

Home Teaching: in our church we are asked to help take care of one another in our congregations. One of the ways we do this is through Home Teaching. Every month we welcome people in our homes to share a spiritually uplifting message, and we go into other peoples homes to do the same. It is an awesome thing and I'm so grateful for the chance we have to mingle and get to know those in the ward that we might not get to know otherwise.

Little Girls: Bug had to come into class today with me because my husband was teaching a lesson. The little girls in my class had so much fun playing with them. I felt so bad that they weren't paying attention to the lesson they were supposed to be learning themselves, but it was just too cute to watch them love my kid!

Jaime Oliver: I just love him. I might have a tiny celebrity crush... (at least he's a chef, so I'd be fed well...)
3.27.10

First steps: Bug took his first steps today, making a total of 2 steps towards his dad. I almost missed it, but was there in the room by chance and was able to cheer him on as it happened. My husband was so happy that he was there for it and that Bug was trying to get to him. Shows the love of father and son.

Steak: I'm a meat eater in the best and worst way. My husband cooked tonight, which in and of itself is one of my favorite things, but he makes this marinade for the stakes with fresh herbs... it is so yummy, I'm salivating thinking of it.

Dinner dates: we had some friends down to join us for the yummy steaks. We ended up playing a fun game called Smart A**. At one point Superman said that Nevada bordered Canada... and we (and by we I mean I) wouldn't let him hear the end of it. It was awesome! I should text him a reminder of his shame right now... I think I will!
3.26.10

Driving: I'm actually quite the fan of driving. I like to go places and do things... today we went to see my sister. It was so much fun to get in the car, sing songs to make the kid sleep, sit and chat with my mom. It was a good drive.

Speed shopping: I don't think I've ever seen someone shop as fast as my sister.

Clapping: my kid claps in the funniest way. He kinda sweeps his hands up and down hitting them as they pass. It's quite hilarious to me.

3.25.2010

3.25.10

Kisses: we've been teaching our kid the word "kisses!" It's been really fun to see his open-mouth version as he tries to kiss me or my husband. Today though, for the very first time he gave unsolicited kisses to someone other than us! My mom got the first open-mouthed I love you kiss! I have to admit I teared up a little with happiness.

Anticipation: tonight I get to go and listen to a fireside given by one of my favorite speakers. Sheri Dew is going to give a fireside in my parent's stake. I'm so excited I can't see straight.

Sorting: I've downloaded all the pictures off of my camera... it's been MONTHS! So needless to say, I had to sort them into recognizable files. I'm so excited to be done! Now I can get the family blog up to date.

3.24.2010

3.24.10

Cadbury Royal Dark Mini Eggs: oh the dark chocolate goodness...

Grocery Shopping: I know it sounds weird but after 2 weeks stuck in the house Smiths seems like a heavenly place.

Naps: after being sick and daylight savings, the kid hasn't really been able to get back into the swing of things. Today is going blissfully well! (Now that I've jinxed myself for bedtime...)
3.23.10

Easter dresses: as a little girl we had an Easter dress tradition. Easter Sunday we'd get all dolled up in our new dresses and feel so pretty! This year I got a new Easter dress! Shopping today was so much fun and I'm so grateful to have been able to be with 2 of my favorite women.

Lunch dates: I love going out and being with friends! Old friends, new friend, red friends, blue friends... you name it, I love it! It was so much fun to get caught up with one amazing chica! I'm blessed!

Asking for help: I don't do this very often as it is one of my least favorite things to do, but I'm sure thankful when I ask for help and the answer is an immediate yes! The guilt is far less when people seem happy to help you.
3.22.10

Mondays: normally this wouldn't be on a good things list, but today was pretty good. I accomplished an amazing list of things that need to be done this week and I'm feeling pretty good about checking things off said list.

Water bottles: my kid has this amazing talent of being able to open any water bottle and dump it on himself. He managed to dump an entire water bottle of ice water over his head this morning and when he came sputtering up I couldn't stop laughing. I'll gladly clean up things when I can laugh that hard.

Tomorrow: manana is the day the 14 day RSV detention will be over. I'll be able to go and do, get out of the house, grocery shop, pretty much anything I want to do and not feel any guilt! YAY!

3.22.2010

3.21.10

Church members: I'm almost always flabergasted by the fact that there are so many amazing people in the world. I think we all get stuck on the bad and forget that there is so much good. I have a co-teacher in my primary class that is just about the coolest chick. As I get to know her better and better I'm just so glad that I get to teach with her. I think she teaches me more than she teaches the kids.

Health care: I'm in a strong disagreement with the government on this issue. I think that what they are doing is ridiculous, and am grateful that my representative voted against it, (otherwise I'd vote him out next term). However, after taking Bug to the hospital, I am very grateful for the doctors, nurses, and support staff that we have. I'm glad they get paid so that they can support their families and I agree that there is something wrong with the programs that are out there now. I just think there are better ways to try and solve the problems.

Family dinners: our family tries to get together to have family dinner as often as possible. Understandably we've been absent lately because of all our other commitments and sicknesses. Yesterday since Bug hasn't shown symptoms for 3 days and we kept him home from church, I felt comfortable with taking him to family knowing that nobody was sick and that they have all missed us. I love having that time with sisters and kids, brothers and parents... it's good times.
3.20.10

Jammies: I love finding good deals on jammies. I think I could have more jammies than cloths and be perfectly happy. That goes for finding jammies for my kid too... poor boy has more jammies than cloths!

Shopping cart covers: when Bug got RSV I vowed that I would find a way to protect him a little bit better. I found a shopping cart cover that didn't break the bank and now feel a little bit better about the fact that he gnaws on everything he sees.

Blog books: my sister published her blog and brought it over to show me. I'm now inspired to publish my family blog, start a diary blog, and continue on with this blog. That way I can publish them for my kids and grand kids. Pretty good stuff.

3.20.2010

3.19.10

Pedicures: not only do they make you feel pretty, but they make you relax and all sorts of good things. Hooray for red toes!

Long talks: sometimes its so nice to just talk things through. Even if nothing gets resolved, sharing the burden makes it somehow better.

Eating: my kid is finally eating again, and we've found that he's seems to be always hungry! It's such a good sign that he's finally getting better.

3.18.2010

3.18.10

Wellness Checks: today we found out that my son is tall (79th percentile) , has a big head (77th percentile), and is normal weight (49th percentile) for a kid of his age. Go BUG!

Hanging with the grandparents: My kid has a love affair with my mom. It's so darn cute! When she walks in the room he lights up like the 4th of July. I have to say that the feeling is mutual and as the mom, standing back and watching is a great joy.

Getting caught up: I've written down a lot of the things over the week since I posted to the blog, but it is a great feeling to actually be able to post them. Understandably that with a sick child, he has come first, now that we are out of the woods I'm glad to be getting back to the blog world.
3.17.10

St. Patrick's Day: I found out a few years ago that I have Irish blood in me. I don't drink, so it's not like I go pubbing, but now on St. Paddy's day I get excited for a piece of my heritage.

Feeling better: my kid is smiling, has color in his cheeks, laughs, and is back to being 95% of who he was before getting sick. YAY!

The Biggest Loser: although I'm one of those people who sit at home and eat while I watch the show, it is one of my favorite things to watch. I think it is because I'm fascinated with Jillian. She seems to be the trainer that always wins, but to be honest, I think I'd run the other way if I ever met her in person. She's scary! (In a good way.)
3.16.10

Online shopping: thank heavens for the intenet. I'm on the verge of loosing my mind. People are not meant to be cooped up for long periods of time.

Aloette: I found a new product that I love for my skin. It makes me feel decadent.

Psych: it's a very funny show!
3.15.10

Brookside Dark Chocolate Pomegranate: He went, he bought, he conquered! I now have 2 bags of the yumminess!

Holding the boy: for the first time in his little life my son will come and collapse on me. He's normally so active that I'll just get loves when it is nap time. Sadly he's so sick that now he will just come and sit on me, snuggle in, and not move. I'm grateful that I can give him comfort just by being there.

Parents: my mom and dad get home from Cancun tonight. I'm very excited to see them!
3.14.10

DVR: knowing that I'm going to be in the house for 14 days straight, I've all the sudden become so grateful for the DVR. I think that it is one of the best inventions yet!

Disinfectant wipes: seriously... they are so convenient. I know I'm probably filling a landfill right now with how many times I have to go around my house and clean the toys, walls, remote controls, anything stationary... I'm so grateful that I can wipe it up and throw it away. Less laundry.

Brookside Dark Chocolate Pomegranate: one of my favorite candies. They aren't in the house right now and I'm in countdown mode until I can send my husband to Costco tomorrow to get me 2 bags.
3.13.10

Long Nights: when you have a long night it makes you appreciate the quick ones so much more.

Understanding: we've had so many people reach out to us and ask if we need anything. I'm so grateful to have such amazing people in my life and I hope they know how much their love means to me.

Cat Naps: as I sit watching my husband holding my son, both blessedly asleep, I'm so grateful for the two men of my life.
3.12.10

Checking ears: my kid has been sick with a runny nose and cough. I've been keeping him in and giving him fluids... you know the drill... a wonderful friend has one of those things that looks in kids ears and because of her wonderfullness came over and convinced me to take him to the doctor. THANK HEAVENS!

Pediatricians: they're great! They tell you when it's important to take your kid to the hospital.

Primary Children Hospital: the nurses there rock! I think that anyone who has had to take their kid to the hospital knows that it isn't a fun experience. I'm so grateful for that loving nurse who took care of my kid and drained his lungs out so that he can breath again. Bless her heart for listening to so many babies scream.
3.11.10

Camp: I'm really excited to be involved in all the camp preparations this year for Girls Camp. I love working with the youth of my church! I'm stoked!

Grocery Shopping: I'm grateful for food... it's one of my favorite things.

Glazed over: sometimes when I see someone's eyes glazing over I just keep talking! It can be hilarious to ask someone a question when they aren't listening to you and then they stammer trying to cover it up! HILARIOUS!

3.11.2010

3.10.10

Independence: when your child gets it, you get it too!

Preparation: I love the feeling of being prepared and on the flip side, I think that the worst feeling is being unprepared. So when I get a little time to do some prep work for something that is coming up, I feel happier than a pig in mud.

Kissing: if I have to explain this one to you... that's sad.
3.9.10

Children's Medication: little man has his first MAJOR cold. He's had sniffles and other stuff, but he's coughing like a 60 year old smoker... sorry... TMI. At this time I'd like to publicly thank the makers of Benedryl. They are the only reason I'm sleeping. Poor little dude.

New Releases: I got the second book of an author that I've fallen in love with today. It is the first day the book has been available and I'm feeling pretty hoity-toity about it.

New Toys: a ball is the perfect toy. It rolls away and the kid likes to chase it.

3.08.2010

3.8.10

Letting go: I've been really bitter lately because I feel that I'm being used and abused. As I've contemplated my situation I've come to the conclusion that I really need to let it go. Nobody is happy when they hold on to things that hurt or anger them, so why am I doing it??? I want to be happy, so I need to just suck it up and realize that not everyone is as amazing as I am and they are going to screw up from time to time! HA!

Wipes: I'm constantly thankful for the beauty of wipes. I think I will continue to buy them even after the kids are potty-trained.

Healthy: it is a word that I would love to call myself. I can't do it right now, but I'm trying to make the changes so that I will be able to call myself a healthy person.
3.7.10

Mom: today is my mom's birthday. I think she'd kill me if I told you her age, so I won't! Instead I think I will say that I'm grateful for a woman who loves me. Now that I am a mom, I get it a little more. I appreciate the fact that she didn't want to change my diaper, but she did it anyway because the smell was too much to put up with! She woke up with me when I was sick even though her bed was warm and comfortable. She taught me to crawl even though she knew it would make her play ref with all her worldly possessions. In most everything she did, she put her kids needs before her own, and I admire that more now as I see the sacrifice she made because of her love for us. She was and still is my biggest fan and greatest supporter. Thanks for choosing me mom, you're the best.

Internet: my husband got to talk to his parents over the internet today. He had the webcam set up and they were able to see our son as they sat on their couch in Iceland. I love technology!

Autism: I know that it is weird that I'm putting autism on a good things blog, but I have been able to interact with some amazing kids who have autism. They humble me! I'm so grateful for what I learn because they are in my life. Even with the cards stacked against them, with the help of their parents, they defy the odds.
3.6.10

Sleeping in: my husband rocks! (On a very sad side note... sleeping in used to be between 9-11am, now it is 7:30-8am... I'm turning into my mom...)

Being out and about: I actually really enjoy getting out of the house and doing things. We had errands to run today and I was excited. Maybe it was the company of a very good looking man!

Wedding rings: my husband is now on his 3rd wedding ring after loosing the first two. I laugh at him a lot because he plays with his wedding ring like it is a toy. I love the symbolism of a wedding ring and that when women see it they know that he is spoken for, but I'm not one of those women who gets mad when my husband forgets to put it on. He knows he is spoken for and he has never made me feel insecure in that area... so we laugh together when he thinks he has lost yet another ring.
3.5.10

Birthdays: I have quite a few people in my life who celebrate birthdays... HA HA! As I think about birthdays I just feel grateful for the blessing of having these wonderful people in my life.

"Soft": My son is learning the word soft... mainly because he has an obsessive love of hair. He loves to grab my hair, grab the dog's hair, grab my husband's hair... anyone who has their hair in range of his little hands needs to beware! Hilariously though now every time I say the word soft now, he pats me...

Snow: I know most people will think me insane, but I love how beautiful snow is! I know we've had the weather warm up a bit and people were excited for spring, but it technically is still winter! We need the water people!

3.04.2010

3.4.10

Lunch dates: it's great to see friends and be able to sit and chat. Especially when yummy food is involved.

Orange Julius: a yummy treat I make myself after a long Thursday.

Thursdays: the past few months my husband has had to go to school on Thursday nights. Gratefully this is his last Thursday that he will have to go to a classroom! From now on he will be doing online courses (for the most part). I'm so excited! I can like Thursdays again!!!
3.3.10

Taking a shower: even if it is at 9pm.

Reading in bed: I love that it helps me relax and makes it so I can go to sleep faster... that and the unisom.

Neck rubs: when I show stress signs my husband will rub my neck for me... admittedly, I might abuse this from time to time... he he he...
3.2.10

Meetings: sometimes meetings are endless, but sometimes meetings are good and accomplish good things and afterwards you feel like it wasn't a waste of time. Those are my kind of meetings.

Getting away: I love being a mom, I love my kid, I love my husband... however, sometimes it's nice to be away and forget the responsibility for a few moments.

20 seconds: I challenged my niece to learn something in less than 20 seconds and she did it!!! Hooray!

3.02.2010

3.1.10

Airports: this morning I took my parents to the airport as they left for a vacation. At the same time my in-laws were leaving to go to Iceland. I'm grateful that we live in the day and age that we can travel across the world in such a short time and that when it comes time to come home again, we can travel home safely and quickly.

Steak: I'm a carnivore, what can I say?

Dog-sitting: I get to love a puppy for two whole weeks and then give back the responsibility! So fun!

3.01.2010

2.28.10

Noah: my lesson in church today was to teach the kids about Noah and the ark. I loved that when I asked them what God commanded Noah to build one of the girls said, "a really big boat!" She then went on to talk about clean and unclean animals... seriously?!?! She's nine years old! Such a cutie!

Tongues: whenever my kid has to think about something, the tongue comes out. When he's talking, the tongue comes out. When he is crawling, the tongue comes out. I'm beginning to think he likes his tongue.

Family dinners: tonight we got to say goodbye to my husband's parents as they prepare to leave on their mission to Iceland tomorrow. We had a big family dinner with all the trimmings. It was so hard to watch my cute mother-in-law break down when she had to say goodbye to her grandbabies! We love them so much and know they are going out to do the Lord's work. We know they will be blessed.
2.27.10

Day Trips: back before baby, we used to go out and have wonderful day trips. We'd go exploring, shopping, or just about anything we wanted to do. We had our first family day trip today. I have to admit, it went a lot more smoothly than I thought it would. I think it's because we've got such a mild mannered baby.

Jeans: got a new pair today. I like the way my butt looks in them... happy day!

Walking: I like to walk, I like to feel like I'm doing something good for myself. I'm hoping that I can start a new trend of healthyness... here's hoping... I'm not so good at keeping to trends.
2.26.10

Crawlers: my son is now numbered among them. He isn't fast yet, he's still pretty wobbly, but to see him use his little body to get across the room makes my heart melt. He's getting too big!

Fridays: I've always loved them. I imagine I always will.

Anticipation: I love having something to look forward to!
